Accessibility

The target is WCAG 2.1 level AA. Body text is measured, not assumed, against its background:

One colour in the palette does not meet the ratio for text, and it is therefore never used for text anywhere in the interface — only for shapes, fills and rules.

The three states this service reports are distinguished by shape and by words before they are distinguished by colour:

• Pairs — a whole circle, and the word.
• Near miss — two half circles pushed out of line with the gap visible, the word, and the measurement of the gap.
• No pair — a single half circle with a notch, and the words.

The three colours used for these states are deliberately close in lightness, so nothing can accidentally come to rely on the colour difference.

The regrouping board is a summary. Every pair it draws is also listed underneath in text, with the full reason it holds, the two socks named, and the lengths and cuff widths in figures. Every near miss is listed with what blocked it and by how much. Every unpaired sock is named.

Nothing requires hovering. Nothing is revealed only on hover, and there is no information behind a tooltip.

Photographs carry descriptive alternative text naming the sock and its markings, rather than a generic label.

Where the operating system reports a preference for reduced motion, animation is switched off across the whole site and the regrouping board opens already grouped. Nothing moves automatically, nothing flashes, and there is no parallax, no autoplay and no carousel anywhere.

• Everything interactive is reachable and operable from the keyboard, in a sensible order.
• Focus is always visible, as a solid ring with clearance around it.
• A skip link to the main content is the first thing in the tab order.
• Headings are properly nested and describe the section they open.
• Every control has a name, and toggles report their pressed state.
• Forms use real labels, and errors are described in words next to the field rather than by colour.
• The page is usable at 200% zoom and reflows to a single column without horizontal scrolling.

Every page has a print stylesheet, because sorting happens next to the drawer rather than next to a screen. Printed pages drop the navigation and the banner, print on white, keep cards off page breaks, and keep every reason and every measurement.

Honest list, kept current:

• The regrouping board is decorative rather than interactive for screen reader users: it is marked as such and the equivalent content is in the lists below it, but there is no keyboard navigation of the board itself.
• Colour names are generated from pixels and may not match the name you would use for the same colour.
